Variedad originada a partir de una mutación espontánea de Washington en la zona de Lemon Cove, California, donde fue descubierta en 1935 y comenzó a plantarse con fines comerciales inmediatamente. Se introdujo a Chile en 1968 y posiblemente fue reintroducida a principios de los 90, por lo que era una variedad conocida en el país antes del inicio de las exportaciones de naranjas.
El árbol es casi indistinguible de Washington Parentl, aunque algo más compacto. Posee una copa esférica con un hábito de crecimiento abierto y ligeramente caído con ramas que alcanzan el suelo, a pesar de que en evaluaciones realizadas en California tuvo menor rendimiento que otras variedades, es considerada una variedad de producción media dentro del grupo Navel.
El fruto es de tamaño medio o grande, de forma redonda y con un ombligo algo más prominente que otras variedades de Navel. La cáscara de color naranja intenso es de un grosor intermedio, firme y levemente rugosa. Su calidad interna es similar a la de Washington P. Con un buen contenido en jugo, acidez y dulzor. Es una variedad muy apreciada en el mercado ya que presenta una excelente combinación de color, forma y calidad interna.
Nuestra variedad de Clementinas Clemenpons, se ha finalizado, pero no temais ya tenemos la variedad de mandarinas por excelencia, “La reina de las Clementinas“.
La mandarina Clementina al igual que la ClemenPons son mandarinas con un sabor especial, Dulces y con mucho jugo.
Nos es grato comunicarle que comenzamos la recolección de la Mandarina ClemenPons, servidas en unas atractivas cajas de 10 o 15 Kg. Esta Mandarina tiene un intenso color amarillento, de buen tamaño, con pulpa tierna y jugosa, además, de su zumo tiene un agradable sabor y el punto de maduración que le corresponde.
